Purchased your home prior to 2017 and aren’t receiving an exemption? You can still apply now and start receiving tax savings this fall.

If you received a homestead exemption last year, and still own and occupy that home as your primary residence, your homestead exemption application will be renewed automatically. If you purchased a home that is your new primary residence, the homestead exemption is not transferable from your previous residence – you must file for a homestead exemption on your new primary residence.

Don’t forget to provide your tax preparer with a copy of the Closing Disclosure or Settlement Statement to see if you qualify for any additional tax savings on your personal income taxes.
